Nigeria At 60: Sen Wamakko Says Military Rule Responsible For Our Predicaments

The former Governor of Sokoto State and Chairman Senate Committee
on Defence, Senator Aliyu M. Wamakko, has congratulated Nigeria on the nation’s 60th Independence Anniversary.

In a statement by his Media Office, the elder statesman also noted that the nation in the last 60 years have make a remarkable journey despite the normal ups and downs of an developing and diverse nation.

He said by the grace of God all challenges of the nation will soon be history as Nigerians both the governed and the leaders are united to take the nation to desired destination .

Senator Wamakko blamed series of military interventions as the cause of Nigeria’s predicaments. “If we have continued from independence till date as a civilian democratic rule, the country will have much more progress and development than our present situation.
Several times military rulers sack civilian administrations giving excuses which were later found not true. But 21 years now we have an uninterrupted civilian rule and as a senior citizen I personal believe we have make a lot of progress but we could do better.” He added .

“As we celebrate the 60th Independence Anniversary of the Nigeria, I congratulate Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari, the Government and People of Nigeria. The Diamond Jubilee of Nigeria is a symbol of Nigeria’s Togetherness and unbroken spirit.”

He urged Nigerians to remain patriotic and tolerant in the spirit of celebration as the country enters another phase in history as developing economy and preferred destination in Africa for travel and foreign direct investment.
