Organised Private Sector Hails Oyetola’s Govt On Improved Economic Activities

The Organised Private Sector has commended the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in the State of Osun for its commitment to economic development in the State.

The sector’s chieftains who spoke on Wednesday, at the Governor’s Office, Abere Osogbo, during the inauguration of the state council on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the State, said Osun’s growth in recent times has been evident to economic observers.

They also pledged their continued support for the state, adding that it has the prospect of becoming the commercial hub of the South-West.

Dr Emmanuel Ojoowuro, the State Manager, Bank of Industry, who commended the economic growth of the state, said: “Osun is growing in economic terms and those of us that are in town are observing the trends.
“The intensity of traffic around town today is amazing, and part of the explanation for this development from an economic perspective, is increased population and more commercial activities going on in the State. It will be good and strategic if we can study the growth pattern of the State.

“Also, there are no surprises about the number of factories springing up in Osun. The State has the enabling environment for factories to spring up – we have security, we have regular power supply, we have infrastructures particularly in the state capital, we also have people who are omoluabis to do business. Besides, we have institutions like ours that can provide funds in the form of loans. So, Osun has what is required to do well”, Ojoowuro explained.

Also, Mr Bisi Makanjuola of the Osun State Chamber of Commerce, who commended Oyetola’s proactiveness and choice of appointment for the Commerce Ministry, pledge support for the government’s economic drive.

“Those of us in the private sector are proud of what the Governor and his Commissioner for Commerce are doing. We are very happy that this Council is being inaugurated and we want to assure that whatever cooperation is expected from our side will be well done.
“The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises is a prime mover of any economy, and it is a good thing that the government is looking seriously in this direction. I’m sure that if the government gives it the required attention, it will turn out great.

“It is a good thing that this thing is happening at this time and that we have good people at the helm of affairs. We have created a government relations Committee because we want to interface better with this government which is moving in the right direction and the fruits of whose actions we are seeing”, Makanjuola stated.

In his remarks, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola commended the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and the organised private sector for their good working relationship with the state government.

Oyetola, who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, said: “The people of the State have enjoyed the programmes of your agency, inclusive of loans, grants and trainings. You have all been contributing positively to make the State better with your initiatives and programmes.
“You will recall that as an administration, we have shown full commitment to the revitalization of our economy. This goal owes its credit to the conviction that Osun economy stands to benefit a great deal if our business climate supports industries to flourish and fulfill their latent potential.

“It was this that spurred us to organise the 2019 Economic and Investment Summit that afforded us the opportunity to present our development agenda to the world while also receiving valued feedback from stakeholders on ways of improving our business climate.
“It was this conviction that also motivated the implementation of the first phase of our post-Covid-19 economic recovery plan, which, among others, gave tax reliefs to business owners and empowered 5000 entrepreneurs with training, grants and loans.

“Also, in our various youth development programmes, we have consistently emphasised the need to sustainably empower our teeming youths through the provision of requisite training and targeted supports. This is because we understand that the only way to fight poverty is to encourage productivity of our citizens”, Oyetola stated.
