Revert To Old Prices – Tinubu Directs Cement Manufacturers

President Bola Tinubu has called on cement manufacturers in Nigeria to revert the prices they were selling before the recent increase.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this on Thursday, February 29, 2024 after inspection tour of BUA cement factory in Sokoto State.

According to him, Mr President’s directive became imperative to ameliorate effect of cost of living.

He said:
“I want to encourage them to abide by the directive of Mr. President so that we can achieve massive housing programme and the renewed hope agenda of concrete roads of by the President.

“When the chairman of the company visited Mr President last week, he assured that the 5th line will soon commence operation and with my visit here, I can confirm the 5th line, though waiting to be commissioned has already commenced operation.”

Mr Umahi who conducted the facility tour in company of former governor sokoto state and serving senator, Aminu Tambuwal, commended the management of the BUA Cement for ensuring cleanliness within its premises.

Before the current situation, a bag of cement – now sells for over N9,000 – cost between N4,000 to N5,500.

BUA Group’s Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, sometimes last year, announced reduction in price of it cement brand to N3,500 to lessen the pains of Nigerians. But activities of competitors and middlemen in the sector reportedly forced the gesture to a stop after five months.
