Shoprite Reopens Lagos Circle Mall Store

The Shoprite store located in Circle Mall in Jakande, Lagos has just been reopened. The store which was closed following the vandalisation that erupted after the EndSARS protests in late 2020 was reopened on Friday, October 21, 2022.

The CEO of Retail Supermarket Nigeria Limited (RSN), owners of Shoprite in Nigeria, Hubertus Rick has confirmed the reopening serves as an opportunity to show customers that the dogged Nigerian spirit runs deep, even as the team continues to optimize its operations for continued productivity.

“We’re excited to be able to reopen the Shoprite Circle Mall store and continue to serve the residents and locals of the Lekki axis. It is even more thrilling to be reopening after a long hiatus and we are looking forward to continuous support from our partners, suppliers, customers, and the community as we tirelessly build a business, we can all be proud of”, Mr Hubertus said.

Excited shoppers who were on ground on the store’s first day back in business recorded bargains as they made purchases in the store. Adetokunbo Gbenle, a resident of Femi Okunnu Estate said, “We’ve been waiting for Shoprite to reopen as it has been a hassle trying to adjust to the other options we have around. I am glad to see that despite all that happened, Shoprite is back, and I can’t wait to see what deals they have as the end of year approaches.”

The retail giant had also announced plans to open new stores across Nigeria, earlier in the year, as Mr Hubertus  has now confirmed that the stores will be opened in the coming months, increasing the company’s presence to almost 30 stores in the country.

“We have a lot planned as we continue to grow our footprints across the country. Our goal is to build Nigeria’s first independent diversified retail group consisting of varied specialty formats, providing the best value product range and exceptional service that will improve quality of lives across Nigeria”, Mr Hubertus said in a statement.

With the reopening of the Circle Mall store and the additional new stores to be launched in the coming months, RSN is expanding Shoprite’s existing network across 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
