The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting the world in ways no one could have foretold.

However, actors like Timini Egbuson, Nick Mutuma, Tomiwa Tegbe, Jemima Osunde, Lerato Walaza, Ange Eric N’Guessan, Vector and other notable characters from the MTV Shuga series have come together to help curb the spread of this dreaded virus.

In an attempt to combat the spread of fake news and to flatten the coronavirus curve, the MTV Staying Alive Foundation has brought together a Pan-African cast from Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, and South Africa to produce a special season of the MTV Shuga series titled MTV Shuga Alone Together.

This will be the first time MTV Shuga cast members from all four countries will star in the same season.

Through popular culture, relatable storylines, and the talents of some of Africa’s strongest talents, MTV Shuga Alone Together plans to help young people process what is going on in their lives as a result of the virus outbreak, and inform them of the necessary actions to take in protecting themselves.

The series will be self-filmed by the actors, and will depict Nigeria, South Africa, Côte D’Ivoire, and Kenya in the midst of the virus outbreak. Additionally, the show will explore themes like surviving domestic violence and mental health challenges during a national lockdown, and how people with compromised immune systems can cope in the midst of all this.

As Monde Twala, The Senior Vice President and General Manager of ViacomCBS Networks Africa said,

‘The only way to fight the challenges posed by COVID-19 is to empower and equip a generation of active citizens with accurate information and encourage dialogue. We have reached a point where every second counts in the fight against the coronavirus and as a network we are inspired to partner with MTV Shuga and the MTV Staying Alive Foundation on another life-saving campaign.’
