These Three Senators Officially Exit APC

Three more senators have officially exited the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The legislators are Babba Kaita (Katsina North), Francis Alimekhena (Edo North), and Lawal Gumau (Bauchi South).

Senators Baba Kaita and Francis Alimekhena moved to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while Lawal Gumau defected to the newly formed New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The NNPP has the Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, as its major financier and presidential candidate.

Their defections were announced by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, at the plenary on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

Mr. Alimekhena, who lost APC senatorial ticket to former governor Adams Oshiomhole, cited multiple internal wrangling battling the ruling party in his state as the reason for his decision.

Contents of Messrs Kaita and Gumau’s letters also indicated they exited the APC over unresolved internal party crises.
