Tinubu’s Aide Tells How Student Loan Program Will Revolutionize Nigeria’s Economy

A presidential aide, Otega Ogra has said the Student Loan Program is one the many programs conceptualized by the present administration that will revolutionize the nation’s economy.

Ogra, who the Senior Special Assistant on Digital Communications to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, disclosed this in a post via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, March 22, 2024.

He wrote:

“The Student Loan Program is one of many programs that can truly revolutionize Nigeria’s economy – if implemented properly. I am also of the firm opinion that this program can lead to the emergence of a new generation of Nigerians who are able to participate in a credit-based economy and as a result, the country can benefit from an advanced financial data management system which is crucial for national planning purposes.

“To paraphrase what Mr President @officialABAT said some time ago, it is difficult to seperate corruption from a fully cash based economy. Instead of paying ‘full’ cash prices down for every-and-anything, access to credit would help citizens manage and distribute income better, expand spending power, feel less pressured to get cash beyond their current station/means, whilst boosting spend in other areas of the economy.

“P.S: I also think it is essential to raise awareness about proper credit utilisation alongside these new developments in our economy. In doing so, we can ensure that Nigerians are better equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to make the most of this program and a credit system which we will move on to, in the long run.

“We must work together to make Nigeria great and ensure it succeeds.”
