Tony Elumelu Pinpoints Transformational Impacts Of Afreximbank & African Businesses Partnership

The founder and chairman of Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu, has highlighted transformational gains of strong public-private collaboration, particularly between Afreximbank and responsible African businesses.

Acknowledging its impressive legacy, Elumelu maintained that partnering with institutions like Afreximbank will lead to lasting prosperity for the continent of Africa.

Elumelu, the proponent of Africapitalism – an economic philosophy predicated on the belief that Africa’s private sector must play a leading role in the continent’s development – spoke during the event marking 32 years of Afreximbank in Abuja.

Reviewing the occasion in a blog post titled “CATALYSING AFRICA’S TRANSFORMATION THROUGH PARTNERSHIP, CAPITAL, AND VISION – AFREXIMBANK AT 32” the chairman of Transcorp Plc owner of the 5,000-capacity Transcorp Event Centre, Abuja, where the event was hosted acknowledged Afreximbank’s continuous lead role in shaping trade on the continent and transforming lives through visionary capital deployment and strong public-private collaboration.

Speaking at the fireside chat themed “DECADES OF DELIVERING ON A SHARED ASPIRATION: THE TRANSFORMATIONAL COLLABORATION BETWEEN AFREXIMBANK AND AFRICAN MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS AND BANKS.” Elumelu described the outcome of Afreximbank’s partnership with African investors as powerful and transformational, citing personal experience.

He said “One of the most pivotal partnerships in my journey was supported by Afreximbank.
With their backing, our acquisition in the energy sector, through Heirs Energies, did not just empower us as investors, it empowered Nigeria’s oil industry, creating jobs, and strengthening national capacity.
“I led a $2.5 billion acquisition bid for strategic oil assets from Shell. It was one of the largest transfers of resource assets to indigenous capital. The deal birthed Heirs Energie, it created Africa’s largest integrated energy platform. Afreximbank was there for us. They shared the vision.”

“That is Africapitalism in action”, the businessman with active investments in over 20 African countries who hailed the impactful legacy of outgoing President Professor Benedict Oramah, declared.
