Troops Recover Arms In Offensives Against Criminal Elements In North West & South East

In a renewed push to sustain ongoing offensives against criminal elements and reinforce internal security across the country, troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Joint Task Force (JTF) North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA in the North West and Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA have recorded significant operational successes with the arrest of suspected armed criminals and recovery of weapons and other incriminating items.

In the North West theatre, troops of 2 Battalion deployed at Forward Operating Base Dogon Dawa, while conducting a snap roadblock operation at Damari in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on 8 May 2026, intercepted a suspected bandit identified as Ibrahim Adamu, 32 years old, riding on a motorcycle. Troops recovered one AK-47 magazine, 3 mobile phones, Indian hemp and other items from the suspect. Preliminary exploitation of the suspect’s mobile phone revealed incriminating photographs showing him dressed in military camouflage and armed with a PKT machine gun alongside other suspected bandits. The suspect and recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation.

Similarly, in the South East, troops of 14 Brigade under JTF South East Operation UDO KA swiftly responded to a distress call on 9 May 2026 regarding suspected illegal possession of a firearm at Umuoriehe village, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State. Acting on credible information, troops mobilized to the location and apprehended one Ifeanyi Ezebuiro, 22 years old, recovering one foreign-made Ruger pistol. During preliminary investigation, the suspect claimed the weapon belonged to his late father. The suspect and recovered firearm remain in custody pending further investigation.

These operational gains highlights the relentless commitment of the Nigerian Army to denying criminal elements freedom of action and ensuring the safety and security of law-abiding citizens across the country.

The Nigerian Army remain resolute in sustaining aggressive operations against all forms of insecurity in line with the constitutional mandate of protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national peace.
