Uniport Teaching Hospital Seeks Synergy With EFCC

The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, has sought synergy with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The request was made on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, when the Chief Medical Director, Professor Chituru Godwill Orluwene came on a courtesy visit to the Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate of the EFCC.

According to Orluwene, who recently assumed office, “I feel that we should develop that friendly relationship with you so that we will be able to assist ourselves when the need arises,” he said.

He stated that such synergy was important, given that his hospital in the course of discharging its duties deals with human beings of diverse characters and intents

“Along the line, we might be able to encounter some security problems and errant behaviours among staff, patients and clients. In all those circumstances we need our sister agencies. Also, it is important that we come to see you, so that whatever thing we need to do to assist the agency, we will do and whatever the agency needs to do to assist us, it will do. It is a friendly relationship,” he said.

The Acting Director of Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE1 Hassan Saidu in his response expressed delight at Orluwene’s understanding of the need for cordial relationship, noting that such understanding was important in a diverse society such as Nigeria. He commended the CMD for recognizing the immense contributions of the EFCC in the society, observing that anyone who understands his role while respecting those of others deserves praise.

“We sincerely appreciate your understanding of the issues that have to do with national coexistence, because only few understand that. Whether we like it or not, everybody is contributing its quota to the security of the country. You are contributing your quota, to make sure that everybody is healthy and able to discharge their duties and we are here to make sure that the system is sanitized.”
