What Connect Initiative Did To Celebrate Gov Eno’s 61st Birthday
The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno – born April 24, 1964 – turned 61 on Thursday.
His wish, according to information, was that his special day is celebrated with the needy and less privileged in the society rather than spending on congratulatory adverts and gifts.
And things panned out in line with Mr Governor’s desire.
This was thanks to two of his men, Michael Effiong and Sam Osunsoko, who, on behalf of Connect Initiative, visited Ozanam House, a facility for the homeless run by the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos in Ikeja.
The visit saw them presenting cartons of biscuits, milk, chocolate beverage and some cash to the home.
Mr Effiong wrote about the gesture in a Facebook post that reads…
In line with the birthday wish of Akwa Ibom State Governor, HE Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D, that those who intend to celebrate him do so with the needy and less privileged and not splash on adverts or gifts, my dear friend, @sam_osunsoko
and I, on behalf of Connect Initiative, visited Ozanam House, a home for the homeless run by the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos in Ikeja.
The visit, which occurred after a needs assessment was conducted a few days before, saw our team presenting cartons of biscuits, milk, chocolate beverage and some cash to the House after explaining the reason for the visit.
While receiving the items, Rev. Sister Pauline Ekanem, who coincidentally is from Akwa Ibom State, stated that the House, which would be marking its 30th Anniversary, has served as a haven of comfort for many women, their babies and youths.
An elated Sister Ekanem thanked the celebrator, our dear Governor; for the decision to spread laughter, joy and love to the needy on his birthday.
She prayed that God will replenish the pockets of the donors, while granting our Executive Governor long life in excellent health.
While noting that the donated items were really needed by the House, the usually conservative Rev. Sister was so overwhelmed that she allowed us video record her birthday wishes for Mr. Compassion and unarguably, Nigeria’s numero uno Governor.
It was indeed a day well spent!
