The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has confirmed the first death from the dreaded coronavirus in Oyo state.

The patient succumbed to coronavirus at University College Hospital, Ibadan, Mr Makinde announced via his twitter handle.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Oyo state stands at 17.

Governor Makinde who revealed the patient gave up the ghost before test he’s positive for the novel virus came out, maintained his government has commenced tracing of possible contacts with the deceased.

The effort, highstreet.ng understands, is to contain further spread of the disease in the state.

“The COVID-19 confirmation test for one suspected case came back POSITIVE. The patient died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, before his result came out today. Contact tracing has already commenced.”, Governor Makinde tweeted.
