Why Allegation Of Bias By Aregbesola’s Man Against Osun CP Olokode Is Not Correct

There are indications that the allegations of partiality leveled against CP Wale Olokode, the Osun State Commissioner of Police are baseless and unfounded.

The claim of bias against Mr. Olokode, who resumed duty as state police boss in December 2020, was made by Mr. Rasaq Salinsile, the chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) faction loyal to the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

The unsubstantiated claim was made on Friday, February 4, 2022, following an attack on Oranmiyan House, Osogbo the state capital.

Oranmiyan House is the meeting point for The Osun Progressives (TOP) as the APC faction backed by Mr. Aregbesola is known.

The attack that left windows, an electricity transformer among other items damaged came to be in the evening of Thursday, February 3, 2022.

But those who have access to the workings of Osun State Police Command under the watch of Mr. Olokode – a Bachelor of Science degree holder from the University of Ibadan and Masters of Science degree holder in Peace and Conflict Resolutions Studies – maintained he is a core professional and always swift in his approach as far as combating crime is concerned.

Also, a background check on Mr. Olokode who has previously served at various formations of the Nigeria Police Force revealed him to be a fine and brilliant officer who will never allow himself to be used in settling political scores.

For instance, prompt response by men of the Nigerian Police led by CP Olokode led to the arrest of a now in custody suspect at the scene of the dastard act.

Checks by highstreet.ng revealed CP Olokode, who was in charge of the Border Patrol Command, before his current position, visited the Gbongan/Ibadan road, Osogbo attacked Oranmiyan House the same day the incident happened for an on-the-spot assessment where he promised the perpetrators will not go unpunished.

Also his stand on the not too long ago attack on some APC members in Ikirin, Ifelodun Local Government where five suspects – including members of TOP and IleriOluwa groups – were taken into custody and consequently arraigned in court further confirms his professionalism.

Expressly addressing claims of favouritism against his person at a press briefing to put things in the right perspectives, CP Olokode revealed what the command has done so far on some petitions before it among other things.

He said, “I wish to state that we have been working on every petition received. The latest one that has to do with the SUBEB Chairman came to my knowledge recently, and our State Criminal Investigation Department under a Deputy Commissioner is seriously working on it. The petitioners came a couple of days ago, and they were assured of our readiness to get to the root of the matter.

“It is also pertinent to state that the recent attack on some APC members in Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government was thoroughly investigated and those suspected to be behind the crime were arrested.

“Among those arrested are two members of the TOP group, one from IleriOluwa and two persons who were confirmed not to be politicians at all. They were all charged to court, and at no point did my office interfere with the investigation. So, there is no persecution or de-humanisation at any point.”
