Why MTN Awarded N2m Cash Prize To 2 Fellows Of The Second Cohort Of MIP

Leading ICT company, MTN Nigeria recently awarded two million naira cash prizes to two Fellows of the second cohort of the MTN Media Innovation Programme.

MTN Media Innovation Programme (MIP) is a certificate fellowship run by the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, for media practitioners including content creators. It is designed to help them build capacity at both professional  levels by equipping them with essential innovative, entrepreneurial, and technical skills to enhance the quality of their work.

The second cohort of the programme had the graduation ceremony at the Lagos Business School on Friday, April 26, 2024. The ceremony had in attendance the Pan-Atlantic University faculty, MTN executives, graduating fellows, PAU Alumni and other guests.

Abdulrasheed Hussain, Senior News Editor, Premier Radio was awarded the MTN Nigeria Chairman’s Prize for Innovation. This award represents the most innovative business idea. His project, “The Green Journal” is meant to provide farmers in the North, especially Kano state, with accurate, timely and relevant knowledge that will allow them to make informed decisions for their business, improve farming outcome and increase their overall output.

The MTN Foundation Chairman’s award for innovative reportage on MTN Foundation was given to Chinenye Anuforo, an ICT Reporter at Daily Sun. The award recognizes her compelling article about the “MTN Yellopreneur” initiative by MTN Foundation, especially because it was written from the perspective of the recipients of Yellopreneur.

Addressing the Fellows, Odunayo Sanya, the Executive Director of MTN Foundation, said, “As fellows of the MTN MIP, we expect to hear of you, we expect to see you, visibly breaking new grounds, pushing the frontiers, and indeed setting very good standards. At MTN, this is our DNA, we do not leave people the way we met them and when you look at our story, even as a commercial business, that’s the way it’s been. MTN has made a commitment to be a part of the sustainable development of Nigeria. We know we can’t do it alone, and that’s why we look for avenues like this and join hands to deliver transformation”.

Odunayo also confirmed the telco will see to the execution of Rasheed’s project.

Applications for the third cohort of MIP closed last month. The next set of fellows will commence classes later this month. MTN remains committed to creating shared value in communities it operates in.
