Why These Rotimi Amaechi’s Men Are Set For Another Round Of Fight

Two of the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s allies are set for another round of war.

The individuals who are engaged in a fight those in the know have dubbed a battle of wits are Mr. Dakuku Peterside, the immediate past Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and Tonye Cole, the billionaire businessman who cofounded Sahara Energy with his wealthy partner, Tope Shonubi.

Their discord, highstreet,ng gathered, is over who picks the gubernatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Peterside and Cole were the candidates of APC in Rivers in 2015 and 2019 respectively.

The duo fought for the same ticket in 2015 with Mr Cole emerging victorious at the end of the day. All thanks to Minister Rotimi Amaechi.

Mr Peterside was trounced by the incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike in 2015, while billionaire Cole lost out in 2018 following the disqualification of his part (APC) by the Supreme Court.

Information at the disposal of highstreet.ng indicated Mr Tonye Cole is again enjoying the backing of Minister Amaechi as well as other prominent leaders of the APC in the state.

Amaechi, a former speaker and two-term governor, who recently declared his intention to run for the office of the President of Nigeria, is the leader of the ruling party at the federal level in Rivers State.

Information further pieced gathered indicated Mr Peterside, who equally had Amaechi to thank for clinching the party ticket in 2015, is not comfortable with the development.

“He’s not happy about the development, especially the role of the leader (Amaechi)… Hence his decision to go all out against the billionaire businessman and whoever backing him this time around”, a source stated.
