The minister for Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, and Sarajudeen Ajibola Basiru are heading for a possible fight, information at the disposal of highstreet.ng just revealed.

Ajibola Basiru, a former senator and commissioner – in the administration of ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola – is currently the National Secretary of the Ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

His emergence came to be after Iyiola Omisore – former National Secretary – and Ex-Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu were unceremoniously kicked out from office.

highstreet.ng understands he, as a matter of fact, has Oyetola, whose dream of ruling Osun State for another term of four years was cut short courtesy of the defeat he suffered at the poll in 2022, to thank for the current party position.

Mr. Oyetola was trounced by Ademola Adeleke, the incumbent governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

But that notwithstanding the duo are heading for a potential battle, multiple sources maintained.

The brewing development, insiders told highstreet.ng, is over the 2026 gubernatorial election in Osun state.

The governorship election in Osun State will expectedly be held in 2026.

Interestingly the minister for Marine and Blue Economy and Basiru, the man he helped secured his present position are both interested and discreetly working on how to get the party ticket ahead of time, highstreet.ng gathered.

While Mr. Oyetola is said to bank on his current position as a cabinet member in the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that automatically transformed him leader of the part in the state to swing the party guber ticket his way, Senator Basiru believes he will have his way as far as getting the ticket is concerned on the strength of the kind of votes Osogbo the state capital, where he hails from, produces, a source who is familiar with development explained.
