Why They Are Saying Senator Ajibola Basiru And Minister Aregbesola Are Not Friends Anymore
Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru are not friends anymore, talks making the round in the political circle in Osun State have indicated.
Ajibola Basiru, who is the senator representing Osun central served in the government of Aregbesola as commissioner in the Ministry of Regional Integration & Special Duties and later Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
Until the lately those have access to the Osogbo born lawmaker who doubles as Senate spokesperson maintain he enjoys out of this world relationship with former boss.
Digs by highstreet.ng revealed Basiru also has former governor Aregbesola to thank for his emergence as a federal lawmaker.
Their disagreement, according to information, has roots in the reelection bid of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
Rauf Aregbesola, Governor Gboyega Oyetola and Senator Ajibola Basiru are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Incumbent Governor Oyetola has indicated his intention to run for another term of four years.
Another gubernatorial election in Osun State is scheduled to hold on July 16, 2022.
Aregbesola who is the minister of interior in the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is reportedly opposed to the reelection bid of Mr. Oyetola, the man who took over the reign of power from him.
Interestingly, Oyetola was the chief of staff in the eight years of Aregbesola’s administration in Osun State.
The duo (Oyetola and Aregbesola) fell out a couple of months into the incumbent’s reign.
Souces maintained crack in former governor Aregbesola and Senator Basiru’s relationship became noticeable when the latter openly endorsed Oyetola and condemned those who are working against his reelection bid.
Basiru made the statement said to have resulted inhe’siction of sort between him and his once-upon-a-time main man during the commissioning of a 13.15km Ada – Igbajo Road reconstructed by Oyetola’s government.
Senator Basiru’s position did not go well with Mr Aregbesola, highstreet.ng learnt.
Hence the disagreement that exists between the senator and his former boss.
“Aregbesola is not happy with his (Senator Ajibola) comments… You know they are very close and he’s instrumental to his rise in politics”, a source stated.
“You Know by the statement credited to him (Senator Basiru) he is indirectly telling Aregbesola that he lacks what it takes to stop governor Oyetola from getting a second term ticket”, the source further disclosed.
