Works, Education Prioritized As Gov Diri Presents N998bn 2026 Budget Proposal To Assembly

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has presented a total sum of Nine Hundred and Ninety-Eight Billion, Three Hundred and Seventy-One Million, Three Hundred and Thirteen Thousand, Nine Hundred and Forty-Three Naira, Four Kobo N998,371,313,943.04), budget proposal for 2026, dubbed “Assured Prosperity II”, to the State Assembly in Yenagoa.

The budget focuses on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other developmental projects with allocation of N645,257,012,281.15 (64.6%) for capital expenditure while N353,114,301,661.90 (35.4%) is for recurrent expenditure.

Works and Education got the highest allocation of Two Hundred and Ninety-Eight Billion (N298,675,932,654.57) and Seventy-Five Billion, One Hundred and Eighty-Two Million, Eight Hundred and Thirty-Two Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifteen Naira, One Kobo (N75,182,832,215.01) respectively.

The Governor emphasized that the budget, once passed, will showcase his administration’s prudent allocation of resources, aligning with the state’s financial plan.

He said, “Mr. Speaker, Honourable Members, the 2026 Appropriation Bill, when passed into law, will further demonstrate that under my leadership, we have continued to allocate scarce resources prudently in line with our well-structured financial plan for the collective well-being of the state”, Governor Diri said.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere acknowledged the infrastructural revolution in the state under the Government of Assured Prosperity and assured of timely passage of the 2026 appropriation bill.
