5,400 Agribusiness Entrepreneurs Empowered Through Our Foundation – Tony Elumelu
Tony Elumelu, the extraordinary businessman and proponent of Africapitalism, has revealed all of 5,400 Agribusiness Entrepreneurs have been empowered through his philanthropic initiative, the Tony Elumelu Foundation.
And interestingly, in his words, the agribusiness entrepreneurs have gone steps further, “creating jobs, empowering others and contributing to the prosperity of their community.”
The founder and chairman of Heirs Holdings Group – the Nigerian conglomerate founded in 2010 which its subsidiaries include Transcorp Power, Transcorp Hotels, Transcorp Afam, Avon Medicals, United Capital, Heirs Energies, Heirs Technologies, Heirs Insurance, Heirs Insurance life, Afriland Properties and AP Registrars – made the disclosure while playing host to Cindy McCain, Executive Director of World Food Programme (WFP) and her team in Lagos On Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
The Lagos event that saw Awele Elumelu joining her husband to host Cindy McCain came to be two weeks after the duo (Elumelu and McCain) co-hosted critical stakeholders on the sidelines of the 79th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) in New York where issues of food insecurity and the role of youth entrepreneurship in addressing Africa’s challenges took centre stage.
In a post on his Facebook hand with header “Cindy McCain’s commitment to humanitarian work is truly inspiring”, Mr Elumelu pointed out; “We live in a world where too many don’t know where their next meal will come from. Through The Tony Elumelu Foundation, we have empowered 5,400 agribusiness entrepreneurs, who are creating jobs, empowering others and contributing to the prosperity of their communities.”

An immense pleasure to host her and the WFPdelegation again – this time in Nigeria, convening public and private sector leaders.
Two weeks ago in New York, on the sidelines of #UNGA79, we united key stakeholders to address global food insecurity and the role of youth entrepreneurship in addressing Africa’s challenges. We continued to concretize partnerships that will provide tools to empower more young Africans to build resilience on our continent, through entrepreneurship and tackle hunger.
We live in a world where too many don’t know where their next meal will come from. Through The Tony Elumelu Foundation, we have empowered 5,400 agribusiness entrepreneurs, who are creating jobs, empowering others and contributing to the prosperity of their communities.
I look forward to collaborating further with World Food Programme and other partners to leverage the strengths of the Tony Elumelu Foundation to catalyse change. Together, we can give hope to our young, restore dignity, create a lasting impact and leave the world a better place for future generations.
