Gov Aiyedatiwa Receives Navy’s FOC, Assures Security Agencies Of Sustained Support
Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to ensuring peace and security across the state, promising continued support for all security agencies.
Governor Aiyedatiwa made the pledge on Friday, November 28, 2025, when he received Rear Admiral Abdulahi Mustapha, the 46th Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, on a courtesy visit to the Governor’s Office in Akure.
He commended the bravery and resilience of military personnel tackling Boko Haram, ISWAP and other criminal groups, citing recent attacks on schools in Kebbi and Niger states, as well as a church in Kwara State, noting that interventions by security forces had rescued victims and prevented further loss of lives.
The Governor emphasised that Ondo State’s peace is the result of collaborative efforts between the government, military, police, civil defence, local hunters, forest guards and volunteer organisations.
He stressed the importance of continued cooperation and vigilance, saying security is a shared responsibility that requires constant attention.
Governor Aiyedatiwa assured the naval officer of continued government support for all security agencies, affirming that Ondo State would remain one of Nigeria’s safest states.
In his address, Rear Admiral Mustapha lauded the state government’s support, noting that it had strengthened the Navy’s capacity to secure Ondo State’s maritime space.
He highlighted the strategic importance of the state’s long coastline, rich hydrocarbon deposits and the planned deep-sea port.
He explained that intelligence-driven and technology-based operations are critical to preventing criminal activities and safeguarding economic resources.
The naval officer detailed ongoing initiatives, including hydrographic mapping, joint exercises with the Army, Air Force and other security agencies, as well as surveillance operations to protect key locations.
He also referenced “Operation Omi,” a high-level hostage rescue mission, and discussed plans to map abandoned oil wells along the coast to guide future development and prevent illegal exploitation.
Rear Admiral Mustapha, whose command extends from the Benin Republic boundary to the Benin River Delta, reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining a secure maritime environment, protecting economic assets and supporting government initiatives within the state.
On the entourage of the Rear Admiral were Commodore A. Mohammed; Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 32 Artillery Brigade in Akure, Brigadier General Justin Ifeanyi; Commanding Officer at the Forward Operating Base, Igbokoda, Navy Captain Aliyu Usman; Navy Captain A.O. Alemengwa; Commander A. Akeredolu; Wing Commander M.O. Yahaya; and Sub-Lieutenant Ibrahim.
In attendance were the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami; Secretary to the State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Segun Omojuwa; Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka; Amotekun Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye; and Senior Special Assistant on Security, Mr. Gbenga Atiba.
