Anyaoku, Tinubu’s Wife, Awele Elumelu, Omogiafo, Others Nominated For National Honours
The list of individuals nominated by the federal government of Nigeria for the 2023 national honours award is out
According to a release by the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, a total of 340 individuals will be honoured this time.
Prominent among the soon-to-be recipients of the coveted awards are Emeka Anyaoku, former commonwealth Secretary general; Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Herbert Wigwe, Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc; Dr. Awele Elumelu, cofounder of Tony Elumely Foundation (TEF); Godwin Emefiele, Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and Owen Omogiafo, president of Transcorp Group.
While Anyaoku is the only person penciled down for Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), the likes of Chief Adebisi Akande, a former governor of Osun State, Herbert Wigwe, HRM Oba Olalekan Balogun, Olubadan of Ibadan; Malam Maman Daura, Godwin Emefiele, and Aremo Olusegun Osoba made the list of persons to be decorated with Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) Awards.
Awele Elumelu, co-founder of Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) and chairperson of Avon Medical Practice Limited, Timi Alaibe, Amaju Pinnick, Terry Waya, a wealthy businessman; Wale Edun, an economist, were among those on the list of the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).
The names of Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President-elect Bola Tinubu; Prof. Isa Pantami, Olorunnibe Mamora, Jedy Agba, Festus Keyamo – ministers of Communications, Health, and labour respectively – featured on the list of recipients of the Commander of The Order of The Niger (CON) honours.
Owen Omogiafo, president of Transcorp Group; Mariam Olusanya, managing director of Guaranty Trust Bank Limited (GTBank); Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, managing director of Fidelity Bank Plc and Dr. Foluke Abdullrazaq, Vice Chair Transcorp Group have their names on the category that will be getting Officer of the Order of The Niger (OON) awards.
