The governor of Abia state, Okezie Ikpeazu has tested positive for the deadly coronavirus.

Mr Ikpeazu’s status was confirmed in a statement on Monday, June 8, 2020, by the commissioner for information in the state, John Okiyi Kalu. 

Ikpeazu is the fourth Nigerian governor to contract the dreaded disease after Nasir El-Rufai, Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde of Kaduna, Bauchi and Oyo states respectively.

The Deputy Governor Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu is said to have been directed by Governor Ikpeazu to act on his behalf pending his full resumption of duties.
