Charles Soludo Leads As INEC Declares Anambra Guber Election Inconclusive

The gubernatorial election in Anambra State has been declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The declaration was made by the state Returning Officer for the election, Prof Florence Obi, the vice-chancellor of University of Calabar.

Prof Obi who made the announcement in the early hours of Monday, November 8, 2021 said the decision became imperative because there was no election in Ihiala Local Government Area which has over 148,000 registered voters.

Prof Charles Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), is leading in the contest with a total of 103,946 votes and already recorded victory in 18 out of the 21 local government areas of the state.

Mrs Obi quoted sections of the Electoral Act as well as the revised regulations and guidelines for the conduct of elections to back the pronouncement.

“Based on constitutional provision and consideration of the Electoral Act as well as the revised regulations and guidelines for the conduct of elections issued by the commission, supplementary election is indicated for Ihiala Local Government Area,” the state returning officer, Mrs Obi said.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Valentine Ozigbo who is currently taking second place won in only one Local Government Area and cumulatively garnered 51,322 votes.
