The governor of Osun State, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and his predecessor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola are set for another round of battle, information reaching highstreet.ng has suggested.

And their rift this time, according to sources, has root in who determined those in the list of local government chairmen in the state after the expiration of the term of the incumbent council bosses.

The tenure of the local government chairmen ends on February 7 2021.

Sources disclosed the serving council bosses are the interior minister, Aregbesola’s loyalists.

And the state of things is giving governor Oyetola a discomfort of sort, an insider disclosed.

Highstreet.ng understands former governor Aregbesola single-handed picked all the occupiers of the top men in the council – except few places where one or two party leaders in the state were given concessions.

Further checks showed Oyetola has initiated moves to change the situation by ensuring his trusted men take over chairmanship positions in local government area across the state in the next election.

Aregbesola, however, wants to retain the status quo hence the erupting battle between the former and incumbent governor.

“Governor Oyetola has subtly told Aregbesola to stay clear of the whole process on the ground that he should be allowed to govern the state the way he deems”, a source who is familiar the situation of things maintains.

While former governor Aregbesola, according to sources, has resolved not to back down.

Interestingly this is not the first time the two – governor Oyetola and minister of interior, Aregbesola – would be engaged in a fierce battle.

Their quarrel became a public knowledge when Governor Oyetola resisted Ogbeni Aregbesola’s move to make his son kabiru Aregbesola his Chief of Staff.

Kabiru is Aregbasola’s son behind the infamous Opo Imo “tablet of knowledge” given to secondary students in the last administration.

Alhaji Oyetola was the chief of staff to the governor throughout Aregbesola’s eight years reign in Osun State.

Also, the recent reversal of single uniform for school students and education policies strange to Nigerian system put in place by Aregbesola’s administration further confirmed the two men have truly drifted apart.
