Insiders Reveal Gov Akeredolu’s Role In Billionaire Ibrahim’s Bid To Become Ondo Senator

A fresh talk is going on about the billionaire Jimoh Ibrahim.

The discussion, information pieced together revealed, centres on the senatorial ambition of the wealthy businessman who is having a running battle with Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) over the seizure of his assets over alleged N69billion debt.

Mr. Ibrahim has indicated his interest to represent the people of Ondo South in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is his party of choice.

Interestingly, purchase and submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to that effect are already done with.

Those who are familiar with how the ruling party is being run in Ondo State maintained that going to the APC primary for Mr. Ibrahim is a mere formality.

This assertion, highstreet.ng gathered, is hinged on the claim that his ambition has the blessing of Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu.

Billionaire Jimoh Ibrahim and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu enjoy cordial relationship, highstreet.ng understands.

“I can tell you he already has the senatorial ticket, going to the primary is just to formalize the arrangement… From what I’m privy to, his senatorial bid has the backing of Governor Akeredolu”, an insider stated.

Akeredolu’s position as governor automatically makes him the leader of APC in the state.

And he determines who gets what as far as seeking elective positions is concerned, further checks revealed.

Also, those who understand the kind of relationship that exists between Mr. Ibrahim and Governor Akeredolu disclosed his throwing his weight behind the 55-year-old chairman of Global Fleet Group to be a payback of sorts for his contribution during his reelection bid.

Mr. Ibrahim is reported to be among individuals who backed governor Akeredolu with their resources during his reelection bid in October 2020.

That explains his stand that he (Akeredolu) “would do all within his power” to ensure Mr. Ibrahim gets the party ticket ahead of the 2023 general elections, highstreet.ng’s source concluded.
