Insiders Tell Why Senate Spokesperson Ajibola Basiru Moved Against Aregbesola

Those who are familiar with happenings within the Osun State Chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have revealed the major reason Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru moved against his former boss, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

Mr. Basiru is the senator representing the people of Osun Central in the red chamber of the national assembly.

He served as commissioner throughout the eight years of Aregbesola’s reign as governor in Osun State.

Basiru Ajibola, an indigene of Osogbo, the state capital, who became a senator in 2019, served first as commissioner in the Ministry of Regional Integration & Special Duties and later Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

Earlier report by highstreet.ng indicated Mr. Basiru became estranged with Aregbesola, over support for the reelection of incumbent governor Gboyega Oyetola.

The crack in their relationship became noticeable when senator Basiru openly endorsed Oyetola and condemned those who are working against his reelection bid, highstreet.ng understands.

Aregbesola, who is the Minister of Interior in the government of President Buhari, has repeatedly maintained governor Oyetola will be limited to a single term of four years.

He’s said to be pushing for this agenda with The Osun Progressives (TOP), a dissenting group within the state APC.

TOP, with former governor Aregbesola as a major backer, strongly opposed Mr. Governor’s second term bid.

But Further digs by highstreet.ng just revealed a fresh angle to the development.

Those who are familiar with the situation maintained Senator Basiru has nothing personal with Aregbesola.

His position was nothing but for political survival, an insider pointed out.

“He moved against the former boss (Aregbesola) because he doesn’t want a situation where his ambition to return to the Senate for another term would be jeopardized. He understands the governor has the party structure in the state”, another source stated.
