The battle may have been won before it begins.
Sources insist Bayo Oshinowo, the Lagos politician better known as Pepper looks set to snatch up the All Progressives Congress ticket for Lagos East.
Pepper is up against re-election seeking Gbenga Bareehu Ashafa.
But insiders disclosed Osinowo may be the challenger, but he has all the top guns behind him.
“All the party leaders are behind him, in and out of the zone. Check out his declaration. All the who – is – who was there and they gave glowing testaments about his person” a source disclosed.
Pepper is a four-term Lagos state House of Assembly member who announced the intention to move to a higher position as far back as 2017.
Pepper has done a lot of groundwork and he belongs to the right circle.
Pepper is a hardcore Asiwaju Bola Tinubu supporter. Ashafa belongs to the same caucus.
Pepper is credited with playing major roles in helping Tinubu retain a strong hold on the State House of Assembly.
“Pepper was especially useful to Tinubu in the stormy days of checkmating Ambode when the latter wanted to become the new power in Lagos” a source stated.
Insiders disclosed interestingly what actually cemented Pepper’s loyalty did Ashafa in with the Tinubu camp.
Ashafa is seen as pro-Ambode hence the need for a more loyal political player to take over his “vital position”.
Pepper’s rapidly rose in the Tinubu political family by successful going against the powerful influence of Alhaji Busura Alebiosu in Kosofe and its environs.
The coup orchestrated by Pepper eventually knocked out Dayo, the heir apparent of the Alebiosu political structure out of his Federal House of Representatives seat.
“Pepper didn’t use the opportunity to try to grow wings but turned more fiercely loyal to the Tinubu and do the biddings of the master politician to the letter” a source disclosed to societynow.ng.
Societynow.ng learned the rewards for the loyalty is the “uplifting” of Pepper to the position of the go-to man in his political zone – with favour-seekers from other zones coming to him for help as well.
“That is the kind of man that wants to take over Ashafa’s seat. A man that does not make any move without express approval from Tinubu, the fight for the ticket is as good as won and lost” a source stated to societynow.ng.
Insiders disclosed though Osinowo may not have the finesse and elegant skills of Ashafa, he has the huge political backing to knock off his more popular opponent.
“And he appears more than ready to do that as they prepare to fight it out for the Lagos East Senatorial ticket in a primary election” a source stated.
To his credit, multiple sources admit Osinowo is more of a party man and with greater grass root presence than Ashafa.
“And this will also play a huge role in the direct election method that would determine who becomes party candidate with the two of them as leading contenders” societynow.ng learned.
