Senator Ahmad Lawan has been elected the President of the ninth Senate.

The Yobe North Lawmaker defeated his opponent Senator Ali Ndume with 79 votes.

Ali Ndume who represents the people of Borno-South senatorial district polled 28 votes.

107 senators took part in the exercise.

Both Senators are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
