Tips To Know Your Partner Is An MTN Subscriber

MTN recently held its third Annual General Meeting (AGM) in April 2022. At the event, part of the resolutions was that a dividend payment in the total sum of N174.53bn (One hundred and seventy-four billion, five hundred and thirty million Naira) which translates to N8.57 Kobo per every 2 Kobo ordinary share will be paid to shareholders whose names appear in the Company’s Register of Members at the close of business on Wednesday, 6 April 2022 (bringing the local dividend for the year ended 31 December 2021 to N13.12, subject to withholding tax.

MTN Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Olutokun Toriola noted that since inception, the company has paid over N2.5trillion as dividends, adding that the dividends will be paid directly into the shareholders’ bank accounts.

If you have been suspecting that your partner is acting differently, they may be part of the statistics. Here’s how to know if your partner is an MTN Shareholder:

  1. They randomly and frequently ask if you want anything:

So the same person who frowns or even grumbles at the thought of any expense, even when it’s for him/herself is now asking you for a bucket list and saying, “We should go out more often.” Now, you are wondering whether it’s an answer to the prayers you have silently said. They most likely have bought MTN shares and are basking in the “cash out” that just happened.

2. They are making long-term plans with you:

Before, if you brought up plans like marriage, baecations, or field trips, they’d say something along the lines of “na who dey alive dey plan.” But for the past two weeks, they’ve been actively searching for baecation packages. Don’t overthink it; they bought MTN shares and are planning to spend the dividend on and grow with you.

3.“Trust the process”:

The daily tweets or WhatsApp statuses have changed from “Can’t wait to make this money” to “trust the process” or “don’t judge a person’s financial status by how they look”. It’s money that’s speaking.

4. They have been glowing differently:

When you know that you have done the right thing financially, that knowledge gives you so much calm that you start glowing excessively. So if your partner has been unusually shiny, it’s not a new skincare routine, it’s the MTN dividends they received.

5. They have been chanting “this year is my year”:

At the beginning of the year, they set a target to be a money machine and are already making moves. Team angel investor, entrepreneur, and any legit thing that brings in money. They just want to make money, and buying MTN shares was one way they did that.

6.They brag differently now:

These ones just want to “belong”. Because how can it be heard that a whole bad bitch does not have any investments?  Imagine how satisfying it is to be able to say, “I got my MTN dividend the other day.” Whoosh! One way to recognize this group is that they most likely updated their social media feed with this popular meme, leaving you confused.

Look out for these signs in your partner and if you see any, ask them why they bought MTN shares and didn’t buy any in your name. Violence way.
