UBA Prepares For Leadership Shift With Elumelu’s Upcoming Retirement

The 12-year tenure of renowned African billionaire, businessman, and philanthropist Tony Elumelu as Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc will end on August 21, 2026. This transition follows the tenure limits set for non-executive directors by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The board of the pan-African financial institution has named Emmanuel N. Nnorom as his successor. Nnorom is a seasoned banking executive and a long-serving non-executive director on the UBA board.

Under Elumelu’s visionary leadership, UBA transformed into a formidable global entity. Today, the bank operates in 20 African countries and four major global financial hubs—the United Kingdom, United States of America, France, and the United Arab Emirates—delivering financial services to over 50 million customers.
