What EFCC Did Before Releasing Ex-Gov Obiano After 7 Days In Custody

Willie Obiano, the former Governor of Anambra State, has regained his freedom after seven days in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

He was reportedly granted administrative bail today after meeting all conditions set for his release.

Mr Obiano was apprehended by the operatives of the Abdulrasheed Bawa-led anti-graft commission on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on his way to the United States.

His arrest came to be hours after handing over to his successor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

According to Wilson Uwujaren, the Head of Media and Publicity of the of the anti-corruption agency, Mr Obiano’s arrest was in connection with alleged misappropriation of public funds, including, N5 billion Sure-P fund and N37 billion security vote which was withdrawn in cash.

Demand that his passport be held by the EFCC was said to be part of the conditions for release of the two-term governor of the Southeast state.
