Why Appeal Court Sacked Cross River Senator, Odey

Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe is the duly elected senator for Cross River North Senatorial District, a court of appeal sitting in Calabar the capital of Cross River has ruled.

The court made the pronouncement today, July 30, 2021.

It held that Agom-Jarigbe is the lawful candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for December 5, 2020 bye-election.

The senatorial ticket has been a subject of discord between Steven Odey and Agom-Jarigbe for a couple of months.

Cross River North Senatorial seat became vacant following death of Rose Oko who passed in March, 2020.

Delivering its judgement, the three-man appeal tribunal led by Justice Chioma Nwosu declared the certificate of return earlier issued to Steven Odey by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) null and void.

The court further ordered a fresh certificate of return be issued to Mr Jerigbe by the electoral umpire and that he should be sworn in immediately.
