Why They Are Saying Omisore Is Indebted To Gov Fayemi
Senator Iyiola Christopher Omisore, the newly inaugurated national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is said to be very grateful to Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State at the moment.
And his gratitude to Mr. Fayemi, highstreet.ng pieced together, is not unconnected with the role the governor reportedly played in the arrangement that transformed him into a national officer of the political party he joined only last year.
The national convention where Omisore, alongside other party officers, emerged via consensus arrangement held on Saturday, March 26, 2022, in Abuja.
Omisore, a former deputy governor of Osun State, officially became a member of the ruling APC on February 15, 2021, after dumping the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
He contested the 2018 gubernatorial election against incumbent governor Oyetola on the platform of the SDP and came third in the contest.
Interestingly, Gov Fayemi was among the APC delegates that talked Omisore into supporting Adegboyega Oyetola, the then candidate of the ruling party, when the 2018 governorship election in Osun State was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“Fayemi did the underground work that made the candidature of Omisore appealing to those that matter in the scheme of things as far as APC is concerned”, a source who is familiar with the whole process confided in highstreet.ng.
He also went as far as reaching out to those a particular man of influence in the corridor of power when indication emerged that Omisore may be dropped at the last minutes, the source insisted.
Further checks revealed the chairman of the APC governors’ forum to be the individual who actually started the campaign that eventually transformed the Ile-Ife-born politician occupier of the top party position.
“I’m not saying he did it all alone… but he was the one who started the campaign, … and he was able to make his candidature appealing to members of the progressives governors’ forum (APC Governors Forum) and beyond, our source maintained.
