An Unpleasant discussion is going on in Oyo State
And it is about the gubernatorial ambition of Adebayo Adelabu.
Mr. Adelabu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, is the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2023 election in Oyo State.
The SDP is the political platform Mr. Adelabu defected to after he lost out at the governorship primary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Ibadan-born politician who was the flagbearer of the APC in the 2019 governorship election lost to Teslim Folarin – former Senate Leader who currently represents the people of Oyo South Senatorial District in the national assembly.
He was trounced at the poll by incumbent governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Information at the disposal of highstreet.ng indicated there is a possibility of him jettisoning the ambition.
Sources cited the fact that he has been reached out to and also his belief in Asiwaju Tinubu’s presidential ambition project as responsible for his soon-to-be-taken decision.
The deal that will eventually see him dropping his ambition was perfected by Tinubu, highstreet.ng understands.
Asiwaju believes bringing everybody on board will brighten the chance of the APC in the state, another source who is privy to the arrangement disclosed,
“Asiwaju Tinubu has already given him his words and reportedly promised he would be taken care of if the pendulum eventually swings the way of the ruling party at the general election”, the source further divulged.
“I’m sure you know he enjoys a solid relationship with Asiwaju, and he has approached him to drop the SDP ticket… I don’t see him disregarding Tinubu’s on the move. His message to the former governor of Lagos State when he emerged as the presidential candidate of the APC will further convince you that a cordial relationship exists between the duo”, a source who is familiar with what is about to happen in Oyo State maintained.
Mr. Tinubu reportedly played a lead role in the arrangement that transformed him the candidate of the APC in the last general election.
