Niger Gov Bago’s Deputy Moves To Resign

The deputy governor of Niger State, Yakubu Garba, has concluded plans to resign from his position, information available to HighStreet.ng has indicated.

According to an exclusive report by Daily Nigerian, the resignation will happen “any moment from now.”

Findings reveal he has started moving his personal belongings from his official residence.

Movement of Mr Deputy Governor’s personal effects occurred between Saturday, April 26, and Sunday April 27, 2025, HighStreet.ng understands.

“As I speak to you, he has substantially moved out his belongings from the official residence to his private residence. He will resign any moment from now,” Daily Nigerian quoted one of its sources.

Reasons for his soon-to-be-move have roots in what the deputy governor tagged sidelining of his person in the scheme of things as far as the state’s governance is concerned and strained relationship with the State Governor, Umaru Bago.

“The last straw that broke the camel’s back was the replacement of Mr Garba’s preferred candidate in the forthcoming local government election in the state,” Daily Nigerian reported.

“Mr Garba and stakeholders of the APC in his local government, Shiroro, had settled for Babangida Kudodo as the consensus candidate, but when the list of candidates was released by the party headquarters, another candidate, Isyaku Bawa, got the ticket,” the report indicated.

What remains unclear is if the Sunday night meeting some traditional rulers had with him on possible resolution of the issues with governor would make him rethink his resignation plan.
